Takeya Nishijin Honkan was an unexpected gem. It is one of three units in one development on the site of an old kimono store in Nishijin Old Town. The renovation of the old building was tasteful and thoughtful of the original design. It retains some original features such as tatami rooms, courtyard gardens, and old furniture, but has all the modern conveniences a traveler could want, such as a fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, and even Netflix.
Although not located in the center of town, public transportation to the main tourist attractions in Kyoto was the most convenient as there are about 10 different bus routes within 50 meters of the accommodation. The check-in process was also quick and easy. Our host was a very caring person. He provided the most complete file with all the information our guests needed and was always prompt in replying to our inquiries. When I visit Kyoto again, I would like to come back to stay again.

This place is nice and elegant. Everything was great. My wife and I really liked the traditional Machiya with the added western bed. Kazuya is very professional and a good communicator. I noticed that he listed some accommodations on Airbnb. Due to this very positive experience, I will stay at one of his places again on my next trip to Kyoto.

A wonderful place to stay. Very calm local area with easy access to tourist attractions.
